I had a bit of trouble coming up with an idea for this assignment. I knew that
the simplest approach would be to just create some shape inside of another shape,
but I really wanted to make something that'd look nice and artistic as a display
piece.
Pretty soon I thought about coral being a natural shape that'd provide a lot of little
intricate holes that a subtractive manufacturing process would have difficulty cutting out,
especially with something behind them. My original idea was to fully contain the fish but
I couldn't find a way that looked natural to do so with my limited 3d modeling knowledge. I
know this may not be as great of an example as additive manufacturing as it should've been but
I was really happy with the way my model looked so I hoped that all the details would be enough. I did
find that this assignment helped me learn a few useful tools in Fusion, though, such as the form tool.
I made the fish out of a symmetrical pipe form that I sculpted according to an image.
3D PRINTING
I used one of the Bambulab A1s for my printing. My print was decently long (3 hours), so I was lucky not to encounter any
issues that would've required me to reprint. I was a bit worried about the thin coral pieces during the printing process
but they turned out looking pretty good and not causing any difficulties!
