Week 11’s assignment was to create something large out of OSB that can be assembled without fasteners or glue. I originally decided I would make a rocking chair, but without wanting to spend too much time on ergonomics, I abandoned this in favor of a bookshelf. By using a similar chamfered slot system as seen on CARDBLOOM, I was able to create a four unit bookshelf. The slots on the vertical pieces are 3 inches longer than the corresponding horizontal slots to create better structure for heavy objects placed on the shelves. The large holes in each unit serve two purposes. Firstly, to allow physical access to the shelf from each angle, and secondly, to allow plant vines or lamplight to spill out into the room without obstructing physical access to the front of the shelf.
